Has dressing like a fangirl ever looked as good as it does now? Outside the shows in New York this week, the street style T-shirt du jour has evolved from its days on the backs of stadium-clamoring tweens. Dotting the sidewalks were some fashion-forward Beliebers, sweating in Purpose tour tees (and a gothic script-emblazoned hoodie or two). Another model sang her praises to rap god Jay Z in the form of a T-shirt–meets–tunic screen-printed with his face. And the ultimate reclaiming of the teen dream tee came in the form of Vogue.com Style Editor Edward Barsamian’s pairing of Kanye West Saint Pablo tour merch, chicly worn under a white Saint Laurent Le Smoking jacket.
So who to applaud for the comeback of wearing one’s adolescent heart on their sleeve? Vetements’s “Justin 4ever” and Titanic hoodies are chock-full of red-hot, sellable noughties nostalgia, an era that seems perpetually in comeback mode. Take pop princess Britney Spears who recently returned with a new, well-received album. The Spice Girls are still making headlines, and just last season, the Backstreet Boys held a mini concert at Balmain x H&M’s launch party. The best part? It’s now chic to geek out over these still-crushable heartthrobs.
Here, five ways to wear the look.
